Case Study: Morrison Tours

Morrison Tours is a long-established travel company providing quality shore excursions and land activities across the UK for the cruise and group market. They are part of the Cory Brothers Shipping Agency Ltd, and are based in Edinburgh.

Tour Management System

Cloud Street worked with Morrison Tours to develop a business system to support the majority of their operational business processes. It replaced a number of manual, spreadsheet and old database processes.

Features of the system include:

  • Contact management for customers and suppliers
  • Creation and management of schedules of port calls for cruise ships visiting the UK, working with multiple ships, locations, dates, operating companies, and tours offered
  • Generation of proposals to ship operators, drawing on a library of internal data on tours offered in each location, and allowing detailed customization of tour details, capacity and pricing structure offered
  • Sub-contractor / operations management, tracking and invoicing of approved proposals, including an overview of the current position with any particular client proposal
  • Automatic generation of supplier requirements for each proposal, integrating with Outlook to send automated quotation and booking requests to suppliers, including an overview of the current position with any particular supplier
  • Generation of on-the-day action plans for each port call, allocating specific suppliers, tour guides, coaches and customers to individual tour groups.

Technology

The system was developed in Microsoft Access 2007.

Morrison Tours say:

We worked with Cloud Street to develop a database in Access as a step up from our current business system. We wanted to be able to automate various aspects of our travel & tourism business, such as supplier bookings and client proposals and yet still have fully auditable procedures in accordance with our QA.


We interviewed 3 possible contractors for this work and felt Cloud Street had the best grasp of what we were trying to achieve and was also able to demonstrate previous work that addressed similar workflow aspects of our project.


The system has been developed along very logical lines which makes the flow of data easy to understand. Therefore users find the process relatively easy to grasp and training is relatively straightforward.


Cloud Street has been very reactive to the various amendments we have requested.


I would certainly recommend Cloud Street for this type of project.
